Trinasolar and Smart Commercial Energy deliver landmark solar install at Western Sydney Airport

SYDNEY, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Trinasolar, a global leader in smart solar and energy storage solutions has been selected as the solar panel supplier for the first clean energy project for the highly anticipated Western Sydney International Airport, as it prepares to open in late 2026.

The install features 8,824 Trinasolar Vertex S+ 510W (NEG18R.28) modules, with the airport's rooftop PV install spanning the main terminal roof, both piers and covered car park walkways.

Delivered by leading EPC, Smart Commercial Energy, the project marks another milestone in the companies' partnership spanning more than a decade, combining Trinasolar's globally proven solar technology with Smart Commercial Energy's local engineering and project delivery expertise.

The install includes:

  • 4.5MWp of total installed capacity.
  • 8,824 Trinasolar Vertex S+ 510W panels.
  • More than 5,800 MWh of estimated of clean, renewable energy generated annually.
  • 3,712 tonnes of estimated CO2 emissions avoided each year.
  • 1.3MW of capacity installed on covered walkway canopies.

Smart Commercial Energy worked alongside electrical contractor Heyday 5, and builder Multiplex, to deliver the install. Given the airport location, the project required detailed glare studies to protect pilots and air traffic control from reflection.
