Deputy appoints Silvija Martincevic as global CEO

Deputy appoints new global CEO Silvija Martincevic after reaching $100M in annual recurring revenue

Company prepares for its next phase of growth and focuses on scaling internationally

Deputy, the shift management platform, has today announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Silvija Martincevic, to scale the business as it reaches a milestone of securing $100M in annual recurring revenue servicing 330,000 workplaces and 1.3 million shift workers globally.

Martincevic succeeds Deputy co-founder Ashik Ahmed as CEO who has taken the company through extensive growth during unforeseen macro-economic factors, such as a global pandemic which drastically affected shift workers and business owners. Ahmed will transition out of the day-to-day operations and join Deputy’s Board of Directors where he will play an advisory role to ensure Martincevic’s transition is seamless as she assumes her global responsibilities.

Joining Deputy with previous experience as a CEO, COO and Founder in e-commerce and fintech startups, Martincevic brings over two decades of experience building, growing and scaling global teams. From her time at Groupon, she gained international experience leading a team of over a thousand with revenue of $1B across 14 countries, and at Affirm she grew merchant network from approximately 5,000 to more than 200,000 retailers representing nearly 60% of U.S. e-commerce, and grew revenue to over $1B.

"When Steve Shelley and I co-founded Deputy 14 years ago, we had an idea and some very big aspirations,” said Ahmed. “We nurtured those ambitions into a reality far beyond our wildest dreams and it has been my absolute honour and privilege to have led Deputy to this point. Today, more than 330,000 workplaces and 1.3 million shift workers use Deputy daily in over 100 countries. Our impact story is just beginning and our global story is not yet complete. I'm delighted to welcome Silvija as our next CEO – she is well-positioned and more than qualified to execute the massive goals we have set for ourselves globally."

Raised by a family of shift workers and an immigrant herself, Martincevic understands first-hand the challenges facing the shift work community. Martincevic is passionate about building companies, growing high-performing teams and helping underserved communities to thrive through technology. The technology company being from Australia is what attracted her to the opportunity initially.

Deputy has earned a global reputation for product innovation in simplifying shift work. With its global footprint, 14 years of deep knowledge and accumulated workforce data, and a mission-driven approach, Deputy is best positioned to build a bright future for the world’s 2.7 billion shift workers - two thirds of the world’s working population,” said Martincevic.

“Brands like F45, Gelato Messina, Qantas, Taronga Zoo and The Iconic utilise Deputy to communicate with, schedule, and create a more flexible and transparent workplace for their employees. I am proud to be Deputy’s new CEO, and I’m excited to work with our passionate team to improve the lives of millions of hourly workers and bring thriving workplaces to every community."

Aside from propelling businesses from startup to growth stage to IPO, Martincevic has a passion for supporting underserved communities and has been involved with incredible purpose-driven organisations, including B Corp Lemonade and not-for-profit Kiva, sitting on their Board of Directors.

Leveraging her previous experience in scaling organisations, Martincevic's focus will be on growing Deputy’s global presence. She will be based in Deputy’s US Headquarters in San Francisco with frequent visits to Deputy’s Sydney and London teams.
