Turn your Property into a Smart Home with These Tips

Smart technology will revolutionise how we live our lives, especially in the home; in this short article, we take an in-depth look at how smart tech can improve home life.

  • Home security – Home security has never been as important as it is today and smart tech empowers you in so many ways; you can, for example, view your CCTV cameras from any location and even move and zoom! Of course, you do need an Internet connection to remotely view your security cameras, but that is easy enough to set up. If a stranger arrives at your front gate, you can speak with them via an intercom and allow access using an app.
  • Smart-friendly appliances – How about a dishwasher that you can start remotely? All kitchen appliances now come with smart technology compatibility; Bluetooth technology enables wireless device communication and with all appliances and devices hooked up to your smart system, you have complete control. Appliances such as washing machine, oven, coffee percolator, fridge/freezer, clothes dryer and dishwasher, are all smart tech capable.
  • Search the Internet – If you would like to know more about smart technology, Google is your best friend and a few hours of browsing should be enough for you to gain a good understanding of how a smart home actually works.
  • Contact a local locksmith – Believe it or not, a locksmith can supply and install a smart home management system, which comprises of a central interface, mains power unit and a wireless router (you need an Internet connection). He can also supply and install a CCTV system and you can connect to the web and remotely view your property when out and about.
  • Climate control – How nice it would be to be able to turn on the a/c before you leave the office and arrive to a nice cool home. If you have ducted a/c, you can zone off rooms using a mobile app, turning the system on and off remotely. You can set the a/c to turn off after you sleep, which is a great way to save energy. The system can also remind you that it is time to have your a/c serviced!
  • Go solar – Many Australian homeowners have already made the switch to clean and renewable energy by fitting solar panels on the roof and the system charges lithium-ion batteries. Your solar energy system can be managed by your smart system, which allows you to choose whether you use directly from the panels or from the stored energy in the batteries.

The future is here with smart home technology; energy saving devices and appliances that can talk to each other, which you can manage from an app on your smartphone.  Home security is one thing you simply cannot afford to ignore in this day and age and with smart technology, you are in complete control.
